Thank you for your fact-finding interest in Nalge Nunc International in relation to the subject of animal testing. We encourage you to express your views, as customer feedback is important to us. We appreciate you taking your time to read who we are and how we are connected to medical research.

Nalge Nunc International (NNI) is a manufacturer of plastic products sold under the NALGENE®, NUNC® and I-CHEM® brand names. Our products are sold into a variety of laboratory, packaging, consumer and industrial markets. NNI also purchases selected products from other manufacturers, including plastic animal cages. All of our products are sold through distributors to research laboratories, various types of industrial processing facilities and camping and backpacking stores.

Nalge Nunc International's mission is to enhance the lives and work of our many customers by providing premium-quality products that meet their needs. We do not conduct any animal testing in the development or manufacturing of our products and we do not condone the inhumane treatment of animals.

Nalge Nunc International realizes that animal research is essential to medical research. There is no laboratory procedure or computer simulation that can reproduce the complex systems of a living organism. There is nothing short of controlled animal research that can prove the safety and efficacy of a drug or surgical procedure. Without animal research, there would be no polio vaccine, no heart by-pass surgery, no chemotherapy and no insulin. Without animal research, we will never be able to cure AIDS, multiple sclerosis or Alzheimer's.

NNI believes that animal research should be conducted only within the guidelines of the federal Animal Welfare Act and only when necessary. We applaud the declining use of animal research during the past two decades. This decrease is due largely to new laboratory techniques to determine the effects of potential new drugs on in vitro cells and tissue samples in the early stages of investigation. Nalge Nunc International has been and will continue to be a leader in the development of new products for cell and tissue culture. This will not only minimize the use of animal research, but will enable medical researchers to cure diseases and alleviate suffering in humans and animals faster.

NNI encourages all interested parties to learn the facts about animal research and its role in medical research. We recommend contacting the Foundation for Biomedical Research, 818 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Suite 303, Washington, DC 20006. Telephone: 202-457-0654. Fax: 202-457-0659.
